p-nitrophenol (PNP), a class of highly toxic and environmental persistent organic pollutants (POPs), is not easily biodegradable or naturally photolyzed; it accumulates and causes long-term damage to the environment, so PNP is one of the most frequently detected organic pollutants [1, 2]. In view of the environmental toxicity and chemical Coumarin1 in the presence of p-nitrophenol results in a quenching of fluorescence, providing a direct measure of the concentration of p-nitrophenol present in the sample. The decrease in fluorescence intensity is proportional to the paraoxon concentration in the range of 7.0x10(-7)-1.7x10(-4) M. Biochar can both adsorb and degrade p-nitrophenol (PNP); however, the PNP degradation mechanism has not been well investigated. We prepared two biochars at pyrolysis temperatures of 500 °C (B500) and 700 °C (B700).
